Studio 8 has chosen Robert Eggers to write and direct a remake of the horror classic "Nosferatu." The untitled remake of the film will be based on F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, which starred Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok of Transylvania.
Eggers wrote and directed "The Witch," for which he received the directing award at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen's production company, Parts and Labor, will produce the film, according to Deadline.
"Nosferatu" was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" and was remade by Werner Herzog in 1979. The classic is regarded as one of the greatest, and scariest horror movies of all time, mostly due to its frightening black-and-white cinematography, The Huffington Post reported.
The original film's Count Orlok was named as one of the most influential monsters in movie history, describing Schreck's portrayal of the vampire as "eerie and iconic," according to IGN.
Murnau was recently in the news after grave robbers stole his skull from his tomb in Germany, as HNGN previously reported.
