The Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch is scheduled for release on September 4. However, VentureBeat is able to get a preview of it ahead of time.
Since the hint about the smartwatch was given away by Samsung, the media has been wondering about its looks and specifics.
Venturebeat have contacted people well-informed of the new technology. Their contact even flaunted an archetype delivered to developers and other selected partners.
An internal promotional marketing video -- created by an independent team closely working with Samsung -- for the smartwatch has also been flaunted by the technology website's source who doesn’t want to be named.
Christina Farr, writer for VentureBeat, wasn’t permitted to take photos of the smartwatch but was able to steal a few seconds of the clip, which evidently shows an OLED display of high-quality. The smartwatch is not seen as a smartphone replacement but as a companion of the device. It is also designed to attract fitness junkies in purchasing the new device.
As described my Ms. Farr, the black and gray-colored smartwatch measures 3 inches diagonally with a rounded corner, square screen. It has large bezels, which make it look thick. The wristband is awkwardly heavy and archaic but is enough to hold speakers. Though it’s not really heavy, women won’t really opt for this one. The watch sample is Wi-Fi ready and has a Bluetooth linking it with Samsung’s Galaxy S line-up and other Android devices. It is also equipped with a 4-megapixel camera assembled into the strap, small speakers in the clasp, an easy to use swipe function to use apps and a power button is placed on the side.
For health and fitness conscious people, here are some of the possible uses of the Smartwatch as described by Ms. Farr: 1) It can track your health data, heart rate and calorie intake, 2) The watch will aid you develop the best workout, and 3) It can track your food intake by snapping photos of what you eat.
It has also been disclosed by Venture’s source that a Palo Alto, Calif.-based startup has been working hand in hand with Samsung to develop fitness applications for the smartwatch.
