Acer Unveils Liquid S2; World’s First 4K Video Recording Smartphone

Acer announced Monday its newest 6-inch smartphone, the Liquid S2, which it claims is the world's first 4K video recording smartphone.

The IFA 2013 in Berlin this week is getting more intense. Acer announced Monday that it will unveil its latest Liquid S2, world's first 4K ultra HD recording capable smartphone with astonishing features. The Liquid S2 will compete directly with Samsung's much-awaited Note 3 and Sony's Xperia Z1, which are expected to host similar advanced features.

Acer Liquid S2 sports a big 6-inch Gorilla Glass 920x1080 resolution full HD 1080p touch screen displaying 368 pixels per inch. The S2 features 13-megapixels rear-facing camera, which can shoot 1080p full high definition videos. The front camera boasts 2 megapixels. The cameras are packed with BSI Sensors and LED Ring Flash for sharper pictures. Along with 4K ultra HD recording, the phone comes with support for fast 4G LTE connectivity.

The S2 runs on the latest quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, does not use Android 4.3 but settles for 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Although it will get updated when the 4.3 version is widely available, users must use the predecessor for a little while longer. It is backed up with 2GB of RAM with an inbuilt memory space of 16 GB and support for up to 128 GB via microSD card, essential to store 4K videos.

Acer has packed dual speakers powered by Dolby Digital Plus for a stunning sound quality. The S2 features sleek, curved edges and the Zero Air Gap Display allows readability even in bright sunlight, according to the press release.

The new smartphone packs a 3,300mAh battery for extended life.

The Liquid S2 will hit the store shelves by the end of October and will be available in black or red. The price of the S2 is unavailable at this time.
