After signing Andre Miller earlier in the day, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a full roster. Because of the roster crunch and the overflow of big men on the Wolves' roster, Robbie Hummel likely didn't have a place on the team for next year. After making a little less than $900,000 in Minnesota last season, Hummel became a free agent this offseason and has not received many NBA offers. It is now being reported that Hummel has reached an agreement with Olimpia Milano an Italian basketball team, according to Sportnado.
Hummel was given a qualifying offer after last season by the Timberwolves which made him a restricted free agent, but after drafting Karl-Anthony Towns and re-signing Kevin Garnett, Minnesota rescinded the offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. Hummel's best offers after becoming an unrestricted free agent reportedly came from overseas, so that's where he has reportedly decided to go.
Hummel has experience playing overseas as he did so in the 2012-13 season for Obradoiro in Spain, where he averaged 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Hummel is a 6-foot-8 forward out of Purdue University and has good range on his jump shot and is versatile offensively to go with pretty good rebounding.
In two years with the Timberwolves, Hummel played in 98 games, starting nine, and averaged 3.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game while shooting 42 percent from the field and 34 percent from three. Last season, Hummel's field goal percentage was way up but his three point percentage was way down.
Hummel never really had much of an opportunity to show what he could do in the NBA, but his game might be better suited for Europe anyway. Hummel is too slow to play small forward and keep up with athletic wings but is also undersized for a power forward to fight for rebounds in the paint in the NBA. In Europe, Hummel is the prototypical stretch four, as he can shoot the long ball and he is a good enough rebounder (6.9 rebounds per 36 minutes in NBA) to hold his own.
