Jennifer Beals apparently thinks it's okay to leave a dog in a car on a hot day, even if it just for a few minutes.
The "Flashdance" and "L Word" actress left her German Shepherd in her Ford Escape while in Vancouver on Wednesday, according to TMZ. She left the passenger side window open just a few inches, but on a 77-degree day, you can never guarantee that this will be enough.
When Beals, 51, returned to her car about five minutes later, a guy noticed and confronted her, letting her know how dangerous this could be, but she didn't seem to care much, Canada Global News reported. In the video, you can hear Beals saying, "In Dunbar it is, it's fine," to which he replied that he'd be reporting it.
Global News reporter Catherine Urquhart also noticed the panting dog in the hot car while she happened to be walking by, according to E! News. She posted a photo of the dog to her Twitter, not even realizing who's dog it was yet, writing, "Really?! Dog panting in hot car. 1800 Marine @WestVanPolice another person calling this in @GlobalBc."
Marcie Moriarty of the British Columbia SPCA has said that leaving windows down just a few inches on this hot of a day is not enough and that it was "definitely not" rolled down enough. "The sun shines in Dunbar just as much as it shines everywhere else," she said. "In this temperature, I don't think that would necessarily create the type of cooling effect that would ever be sufficient."
Beals' reps have not yet made any comments.
