The Detroit Tigers have been awfully active on the trade market today and sent their closer to the Pittsburgh Pirates after trading their ace to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Pittsburgh acquired Joakim Soria from the Tigers on Thursday, according to James Schmehl of MLive.com. The discussions of a potential deal between these two clubs regarding Soria was first noted by Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports and FOX Sports' Jon Morosi confirmed the deal as well while FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal added that the transaction is pending physicals. It's unknown who the Pirates will send to Detroit (although it's said to be one minor-leaguer) and neither team has yet to confirm the trade.
Soria, 31, served as closer for the Tigers this season due to the injury to Joe Nathan, who underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this season. Soria is 3-1 with a 2.85 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 23 saves and 36 strikeouts in 43 games (41 innings).
He'll join one of the best bullpens in the MLB, as Pittsburgh ranks fourth in ERA (2.71) fifth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.91).
