Remains of a damaged suitcase have been found in close proximity to where the suspected Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 plane debris was found on Réunion Island. The suitcase was found on the Indian Ocean Island less than a day after the discovery of the debris, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.
Johnny Begue, who discovered the initial debris along with the badly damaged suitcase, said he found it just two and a half meters away from the wing part on Wednesday.
"We set aside all the garbage we had gathered on the beach during the day and today we thought that old suitcase could be related," he said. "It could have been thrown into the sea from the beach."
Begue turned the suitcase in to the Réunion authorities and French police are currently analyzing the suitcase as a part of their investigation, reported The Wall Street Journal.
In regards to the MH370 investigation, US investigators have determined that the debris is from a Boeing 777, making it very likely that it belongs to the Malaysian MH370 that went missing in March 2014.
Since the introduction of widebody jets 20 years ago, there have been a total of four accidents involving 777s. However, the MH370 is the only one that is thought to have crashed south of the equator, reported Mirror.
