Tom Cruise has officially accepted his sixth "Mission!" The action film star confirmed that there's a sixth "Mission Impossible" film in the works while chatting with "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart earlier this week.
"Yeah we're gonna start," he told Stewart after he was asked if he was going to continue with the sixth installment of the franchise. "We're starting to work on it now, we'll probably start shooting it next summer."
The "Mission Impossible" films have grossed a combined $2 billion in worldwide box office sales since its debut in 1996, Variety reported. The fifth installment, "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation," cost $150 million to make, and is scheduled to open across 40 international markets this weekend.
Cruise described what it was like to film the intense action sequences in "Rogue Nation," which features a scene where Cruise's character runs and jumps on top of a moving plane and walks across its wings as it prepares to take off.
"It was intense," the actor told Access Hollywood. "I wore a vest and had one wire that kept me to the side of the plane so I wouldn't fly off as we were going down the runway. We did it eight times. We wanted to get it right."
He gushed to Stewart about how much he enjoys filming and producing the franchise.
"I love making these movies, 'Mission' was the first film I ever produced," Cruise said. "The first 'Mission' was 20 years ago, now this is the fifth one. It's pretty amazing."
