The latest victim of gun violence is a one-year-old Brooklyn boy, who was shot in his stroller on a NYC Street and pronounced dead in hospital, Sunday night.
The horrifying incident adds to the mounting cases of minor victims of gun violence. A one-year-old boy was shot in the head as he rested in his stroller pushed by his parents across Brooklyn Street, Sunday. The injured boy was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, but couldn't survive the gunshot and was pronounced dead Sunday night.
The baby, identified as Antiq Hennis, was not the intended target. According to police sources, Anthony Hennis, father of the child, was the shooter's target as a revenge for an earlier dispute. Antiq's dad was unharmed during the incident, but was distraught to see his son in agony, according to eye-witnesses.
"He was screaming 'My baby got shot.' He was going crazy," said Gina Gamboa, 22, who saw the dad seconds after Antiq was mortally wounded, according to NY Daily News. "The baby was breathing, but his eyes were closed. It's crazy. They just will start shooting."
Parents and family members of the child were deeply disturbed by the news of Antiq's death.
"He just started walking. He was vibrant. He was full of life," said the baby's great-uncle, Chris Dobson. "I can't believe it."
"I saw him, I saw him in there, oh my goodness, oh my God, oh my Lord," said the baby's god-mother. "He was just a baby."
The eye-witnesses heard four gun shots in Bristol St. near Livonia Ave. in Brownsville at 7:20 p.m.
Antiq is the sixteenth minor victim of gun violence on streets since mid-May, according to the report. Antiq was the second under the age of 16 to die from street shooting in the city.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg addressed the tragic incident and extended his condolences to the victim's family.
"Today, we all are grieving," Bloomberg said before the annual West Indian Day Parade, reports Fox News. "We just have to stop this carnage, and we have to keep doing what we've been doing."
