Salma Hayek shot back at Donald Trump for his controversial remarks on Mexican immigrants in his presidential campaign announcement last month.
"I'm not insulted because I cannot be insulted by stupidity," Hayek said. Trump was criticized for making statements that Mexico was "sending people that have lots of problems" to the United States. "They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people," the business mogul said, according to Los Angeles Times.
"Everybody's entitled to be dumb. But I'm not dumb, so I see through the manipulation. We have something to learn from this," the Mexican actress said. "That is that the educated people or the people with great human values have to wake up, because they are under the illusion that most of this country is like them and sometimes they don't even go to vote," Entertainment Weekly reported.
Even though Hayek criticized Trump, she said she wouldn't even say his name out loud, because she believes he doesn't deserve the additional exposure.
"I'm aware that he would say anything to attract attention, and create publicity around him," said the Mexico-born actress. "So if something can generate publicity, I would never be surprised about anything he does," according to E!
Moreover, Hayek said she was thankful for Trump's remarks, because they helped draw attention to the country's racial discrimination issues. "I think it's beginning to show that discrimination and racism in this country is a bigger problem than we accept it is. At least he brought a light into a real problem," she said.
