If you have been following the Sacramento Kings this offseason, you know that they have been interested in just about every free agent available. Now you can add one more to the list, as they reportedly have interest in bringing in veteran Hedo Turkoglu, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
Turkoglu is currently at 997 games played in his career and reportedly would like to at least reach 1,000. The 36-year-old started hs career with the Sacramento Kings back in 2000 and is very good friends with Vlade Divac, who is running the show there, which makes the reported interest understandable. Turkoglu already has played in the most games ever for a Turkish born player and would become only the 116th player in the history of the NBA to play in 1,000 career games.
Since Wojnarowski's report on Friday, there has been a conflicting report from Bill Herenda of CSN California that there is no truth to the rumor of the Kings having interest in Turkoglu.
Turkoglu played the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, and it is clear his career is on its last legs. In 100 games in LA, he averaged 3.5 points in 11 minutes per game while shooting 42 percent from the field. Turkoglu did make 43 percent of his threes with the Clippers, which could be a sign he could still help a team, but he is nowhere near the player he was a few years ago.
Turkoglu had a great career with the Orlando Magic. In two separate stints, he played eight seasons in Orlando and averaged 14.5 points, 3.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game while playing point forward and helping lead the Magic to the NBA Finals in the 2008-09 season.
Turkoglu will likely go down as the greatest Turkish player in NBA history, which is quite an accomplishment. As for his goal of getting to 1,000 games, that is more of a question mark, as it appears that the Kings and his friend Divac may not have interest in him after all.
