TSA: Atlanta Airport Leads In Number Of Guns Found In Bags

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is once again the number one airport with the most number of guns found hidden in carry-on bags, authorities said.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers say they found 92 guns so far this year. While it's less than the 109 guns found in the same airport last year, it was enough for the airport to take the top spot for this year, according to the Associated Press.

TSA spokesman Mark Howell said that 9mm pistols are the most common guns found at checkpoints and are often found beneath the bags covered in thick clothing.

However, every now and then, "we actually find them on their person. It's pretty rare, but it does happen," Howell said, according to the Atlantic Journal-Constitution.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been at the top for most number of times guns were confiscated, but it came in second place when Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport came out on top last year.

Due to the rising number of guns that are being confiscated at airports, the TSA has launched a campaign to teach travelers how they can legally bring their guns onto commercial flights.

The TSA states that they simply do not want guns accessible in flights and that it is never their intention to infringe on the passengers' rights to travel with their firearms, said Howell, according to WSB-TV Atlanta.
