Katie Couric found love once more over the Labor Day Weekend. The talk show host and mother of two was proposed to by her financier boyfriend of nearly two years, John Molner, in a beautiful engagement on the beach at sunset, People magazine reports.
"When the girls were really little, I always imagined I would be modern-day Carol Brady," Couric said to People magazine in 2011, speaking of her two daughters, now 17 and 21, and how she'd hoped she would walk down the aisle for a second time. Now it looks like her dream is coming true.
A rep for Couric confirmed the engagement of the 56-year old widow, who lost her first husband, Jay Monahan, to colon cancer in 1998. The star became a spokeswoman for the disease and underwent a colonoscopy on air in 2000 to raise awareness and inspire others to get checked out as well. Over the years, Couric has had plenty of other suitors, but hasn't found her "Mr. Right" until now.
"I used to worry a lot about the future. [But] who knows what it will bring?" Couric told People in 2011. "Hopefully it will bring good things." It looks like her patience and perseverance has paid off, as the star just received an exquisite diamond ring from her 50-year old boyfriend (and now fiancé) while the two spent their Labor Day weekend in the Hamptons.
"He's really funny and very successful in his own right," Couric said to USA Today of Molner back in May. "In a different line of work. A little more age appropriate," adding that though he's six years her junior, she needs someone that can keep up with her, as she's got "a lot of energy."
With her talk show "Katie" returning for a second season on Sept. 9, the star certainly shows no signs of slowing down career-wise, and the journalist who has been nicknamed "America's Sweetheart" is getting at her happy-ever-after.
