"Cosby Show" producer Tom Werner has finally broke his silence and expressed how he felt about Bill Cosby's sexual assault allegations, TV Line reported. He told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that he hopes the legacy of the iconic TV show won't be ruined by the scandal.
"The legacy of the show is obviously very important to me because the show was a groundbreaking show and it portrayed a middle-class African-American family in a very positive way. It had a lot of stories that resonated with families because people watched it together," Werner said, according to People.
"I do think the show is one of the most ground breaking shows in television," he told TV Insider.
Werner attended the press tour to promote his Starz series "Survivor's Remorse" on Friday. He avoided speaking out directly about the allegations against Cosby when interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter.
"I don't really want to comment on it," Werner told The Hollywood Reporter when asked about Cosby specifically.
More than 40 women have come forward and accused Cosby of sexual assault and rape. In a deposition from Cosby's 2005 civil lawsuit obtained by the Associated Press, the comedian admitted that he administered Quaaludes to women before attempting to have sex with them, as previously reported by HNGN.
