Slipknot bassist Alessandro “V-Man” Venturella was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after falling ill in the middle of the band’s concert in Hartford, Conn., according to TMZ.
The incident occurred several songs into the group's gig at the XFINITY Theatre. Slipknot abruptly stopped playing, and the band members went backstage.
After about 20 minutes, lead singer Corey Taylor returned to the stage. “I’m gonna let you know what’s going on right now,” he told concertgoers. “I’m sorry to say that our bass player, Alex, had... something happened. We’re not sure what happened. He’s been put into an ambulance and he’s going to the hospital right now as we speak.” Taylor further stated the band made the decision to finish the show without him.
TMZ reported that Venturella, 37, was sent to the hospital for convulsions. However, Slipknot has yet to officially reveal what really happened to the musician.
Venturella became Slipknot’s bassist in 2014 after the band’s original bass player, Paul Gray, died in May 2010 from an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl.
The band posted a video on Instagram of the Hartford audience chanting "Alex," in support of the bassist.
Slipknot is currently on the Summer’s Last Stand Tour with Lamb of God, Bullet for My Valentine and Motionless in White, which is slated to run through Sept. 5.
