Former NFL player and New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez had a "sexually explicit relationship" with the anonymous tipster who called defense attorney James Sultan and told him that a juror in the trial of the murder of Odin Lloyd may have been "untruthful" during jury selection, according to a report from the Boston Herald.
"(T)he Commonwealth has also learned that 'Katy' hasn't simply been in personal contact with the defendant," prosecutors wrote. "She had an ongoing sexually explicit relationship with the defendant prior to and during the trial."
Hernandez, of course, is engaged to Shayanna Jenkins, who testified on his behalf. Hernandez also used to date Jenkins' sister, Shaneah.
In June it was reported that an anonymous tipster had contacted Sultan and alleged that she recognized a specific juror from the post-verdict juror interview and, further, that the juror had been present during a discussion of the double-murder charge against Hernandez from a case unrelated to the death of Odin Lloyd, according to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio.
Now, it seems Sultan acknowledged last week that the tipster - who court filings identify as "Katy" - had "extensive personal contact" with Hernandez which, unsurprisingly, is "clearly relevant to this individual's credibility."
Sultan wanted to question "Katy" under oath, but lead prosecutor William McCauley said the tipster had ulterior motives and made "implausible claims" in regards to the juror.
"This relationship includes letters 'Katy' sent to the defendant that were subsequently destroyed by the defendant," McCauley wrote. "In addition to the ongoing relationship between 'Katy' and the defendant, the defendant had a relationship with 'Katy's' father while there were inmates together at the Dartmouth House of Corrections."
