A dog named Lucky wasn't very lucky after all since he had been in an animal shelter for too long. So, the Humane Society of South Mississippi changed his name to Elmo and shared the campaign on social media.
Elmo came from an overcrowded shelter and was sickly and weak, and was even on the euthanasia list.
"He is such a great dog ... he's a great size, he's got a great personality and he's breaking our hearts every day he stays in the shelter," the Humane Society of South Mississippi said, according to The Dodo. "So, we decided to post just exactly how many days he has been here."
The shelter did a social media campaign to find a family for Elmo by posting a Facebook picture of the dog standing next to a sign saying, "I've been in the shelter 122 days. Will you share me to find me a home?"
The post was shared over 1,500 times with nearly 35,000 likes. For sure, the photo went gone a long way! "We're crossing our fingers and paws that today is his day," the shelter said.
Elmo was finally adopted on Aug. 1 thanks to the photo shared on Facebook! Elmo was renamed "Bentley."
We are THRILLED to announce that Elmo, the dog who spent 123 days in our shelter and won the hearts of over 30,000...

Elmo is positive for heartworms, whose treatment will be funded through a local program called "Roxy's Fund." He just needed a home where can be treated in.
Now, finally, Elmo will not just be treated, but will also get to live with his own family.
