Michael Douglas and Matt Damon have been announced as presenters for the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards and both are competing for the Outstanding Lead Actor Award in a Miniseries or Movie for "Behind the Candelabra."
Michael Douglas and Matt Damon will be presenters at the prestigious 2013 Emmy Awards and also compete to take home the Outstanding Lead Actor award for their exceptional roles in the nominated HBO biopic, Behind the Candelabra. The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences made the announcement in a press release, Tuesday.
Damon and Douglas have received five Emmy nominations each, but neither has managed to take home an Emmy, yet. This will be the first time that both the actors are presenting an award at the ceremony, which will be aired live from the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 22, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
"Behind the Candelabra", which is based on Scott Thorson's memoir, Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace, has received 13 other nominations. The roles of pianist Liberace and Thorson played by Douglas and Damon respectively, received worldwide appreciation.
Douglas was previously nominated for his role in "Will & Grace" and for "The Streets of San Francisco" in 1974 and again in 1975 and 1976 for "The Streets of San Francisco." Similarly, the "Elysium" hunk was nominated for his roles in "30 Rock" and "Project Greenlight" in 2002 and again in 2004 and 2005 for the latter.
In addition, returning to the 65TH Primetime Emmy Awards will be host Neil Patrick Harris after his first appearance in 2009.
