The HDMI Forum has officially announced the HDMI 2.0 standard with better features, which makes it the best supporter for the future of 4K TV.
After a long wait the HDMI Forum, a non-profit organization, has announced the latest HDMI Version 2.0. This is the biggest update since 2009, when the version 1.4 was released. Although there were 1.4a and 1.4b updates in 2010 and 2011, respectively, they didn't make much progress other than focusing on support for 3D. But HDMI 2.0 is far beyond all of this, making it the best supporter for the future of 4K TV.
Most of the features included in the newest HDMI Specification are commendable, such as the increased bandwidth capacity up to 18 Gbps, support for video resolution greater than 1080p, which is the 4K video (2160p), 32 audio channels and more.
"The introduction of the HDMI 2.0 Specification represents a major milestone for the HDMI Forum," Robert Blanchard of Sony Corporation, president of the HDMI Forum, said in a press release. "Our members collaborated closely to take the highly successful HDMI Specification to the next level by expanding audio and video features for consumer electronics applications."
The HDMI 2.0 will be unveiled at a press conference held at the IFA 2013 in Berlin Friday, September 6, at 12:00 p.m.
The Version 2.0 has made a big jump from the traditional 10Gbps bandwidth capacity to nearly its double, which gives it the capacity to give support for 4K Ultra HD 3,840 x 2,160 resolution videos. The new HDMI 2.0 will support 32 audio channels and has introduced a new feature called ""dynamic auto lip-sync."
The HDMI Forum decided to stick to the original design of the connecter without any modification so it supports older hardware as well. Detailed specification of the newest version of the HDMI will be available on the HDMI Adopter Extranet.
