The first scandal of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing has already come, some seven years prior to the actual games themselves. No, it's got nothing to do with the major doping leak reported earlier this week. In fact, it's got nothing to do with the athletes at all. Instead, it seems the recently-released Olympic theme song, "The Snow and Ice Dance," bears an uncanny and some would even say eerie resemblance to the song "Let It Go," from the massive Disney-Pixar hit movie "Frozen."
Here's the recently released Olympic theme...
And here's "Let It Go," sung by the character Elsa (and an unending array of children, parents, a capella groups and other artists after the movie's release)...
Considering Beijing isn't exactly known as a cold-weather city, it makes sense that Olympic officials would want to invoke cold and ice and snow whenever possible in their promotions of the event. "The Snow and Ice Dance" is also part of a larger collection of anthems, so it remains to be seen if there are any that sound like the theme from the second Die Hard.
Interestingly, the idea of stealing copyrighted material isn't new in China. There's even a word for the imitation and piracy of name brands - shanzhai - per Forbes.
What say you HNGN readers? Does it sound similar?
