School is no longer in session for "Community." The show's star Joel McHale confirmed that Yahoo has cancelled his comedy series after six seasons between the streaming site and NBC.

"They wanted to [renew it]," McHale told Metro Weekly about Yahoo's decision. "But all our contracts were up after six years. All the actors on the show, almost without exception - their stock has risen significantly and it's out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show."

"The Soup" host cited his co-stars Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs as two hot commodities whose stars have risen since the "Community" first premiered on NBC in 2009. Original stars Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown already moved on to other projects before the move to Yahoo and Ken Jeong will star in the new ABC comedy, "Dr. Ken," this fall.

The creator Dan Harmon and the cast have long stated that they wanted six seasons and a movie, but McHale made no mention of a possible movie follow up. Brie teased to TVLine last month that she was "more hopeful" for a movie than a seventh season.
