“Arrow” fans are still waiting for the role of The Flash/Dr. Barry Allen to be cast and, according to the Entertainment Weekly website, they may not have to wait much longer.
Executive producer for The CW show, Andrew Kreisberg, told the magazine the role would be filled by the end of the month.
“We’ll have to have somebody by Sept. 30, which is when we start shooting [his first] episode. So there is that timeline,” he said. “But it’s been a really exciting process just getting to meet so many fantastic actors and seeing the enthusiasm that so many people around town have for the character.
“It’s just amazing — I have pictures of myself at age 4 holding a Flash and a Superman doll. That I’m sitting here writing the Flash and Green Arrow now, it’s more than my little nerd heart can bear sometimes.”
Earlier this summer CW President Mark Pedowitz said the role does not necessarily have to be filled by a household name.
"I'm from the old school and I think TV creates stars," Pedowitz explained at the 2013 TCAs Press Tour, according to EOnline. "So if we get a name, great; if we don't get a name he'll become a name."
There has also been talk of a spin-off, focusing on The Flash. Kreisberg said The Flash’s major difference from the rest of the “big seven” Justice Leaguers made him a prime candidate for the possible new show.
“Despite the fact that he’s got superpowers, I think there’s something really relatable about Barry — of all the big seven of the Justice League. He got his powers by accident. He isn’t a God, he isn’t an alien, he wasn’t seeking this out,” Kreisberg said of the character in July. “These powers came to him and his reactions to that feel very human and grounded.”
Pedowitz warned fans they may have to wait to see The Flash in action.
"There's a big DC universe where super-powered character do intersect and don't intersect," he said. "But remember, it's an origin story so he may not come in with superpowers."
Season 2 of Arrow premieres Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 8/7c.
