Grab a tissue and get ready to cry - Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog announced they are splitting up. After years together, TV's favorite fictional characters have decided to end their romantic relationship. Miss Piggy announced the sad new via social media Tuesday, but not without promoting her new half-hour ABC series, "The Muppets."
"After careful thought, thoughtful consideration, and considerable squabbling, Kermit the Frog and moi have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television ("The Muppets"/ Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe.
"However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter... unless we get the right offer. Thank you for your understanding,"
Kermit posted a similar statement on his Facebook page; however he added that the decision to ended his relationship with Miss Piggy was not mutual, writing, "After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Miss Piggy made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship."
During the Television Critics Association summer press tour Tuesday, Kermit and Miss Piggy commented on their relationship status.
"It's a day-by-day, moment-by-moment process. Piggy and I have gone our separate ways romantically. It can be tough to work with your ex. There will be an official statement released in the press. I don't want to betray anything," he said. Miss Piggy, who was fashionably late to the stage, added, "I have no problem working with my ex, OK? It's fine. You know what? Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens."
According to TV Line, Kermit is already dating another pig named Denise, who works in marketing at ABC.
Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog breakup comes after several high-profile breakups and relationship scandals have rocked news headlines, including Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner; Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefan; Blake Shelton And Miranda Lambert; and Reba McEntire And Narvel Blackstock.
