An Irvine, Calif. man was hospitalized after getting hit during a shoot-out with police officers on Tuesday.
Police reported to ABC Local that the shooting occurred while they were serving a man with search warrant papers.
35-year-old Ronald Williams was reportedly involved in a sexual assault case on the 1100 block of Crested Bird, at the Doria Apartment Homes complex.
Williams allegedly engaged in improper sexual acts with a child, and was arrested for lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14.
Once detectives saw the man in the apartment parking lot, they approached him to hand over the papers.
Although details are hazy, ABC reported that police were in the midst of detaining Williams when he was shot.
Cindy Jackson was near the parking lot, applying to live at the complex, when she said another to-be-tenant saw Williams take up arms.
"A female who was applying as a prospective resident as well said, 'There's a man with a rifle outside and I think he's starting to shoot,'" Jackson reported to KTLA. "We then were asked to run out the left side of the building by a police officer, and we ran about two blocks up the road while shots were being fired."
But another woman who identified herself as Lisa Henry was in the car with Williams when police officers opened fire, and insisted he did not have a firearm.
"He didn't pull out no gun. I'm telling you, I didn't see no gun," Henry said.
She stated he was a tattoo artist who offered to give her free tattoos in exchange for her coming to his apartment to clean and babysit his 3-month-old child.
She was not harmed by the shooting, nor were any police officers.
Williams' current state is still unknown, but police reported he was conscious and talking when they rushed him to the hospital.
