Malaysian PM Confirms MH370 Debris Found on Reunion Island

The debris that surfaced in the Indian Ocean last week is indeed a piece of missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak confirmed on Wednesday, CNN reports. Last week, a piece of what was suspected to be the missing airplane was discovered off the coast of Reunion Island. The island, a French territory, is not far from Madagascar.

The piece of wreckage, which is the flaperon of the plane, arrived in France last weekend to be examined by the French General Directorate of Armament and U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, HNGN reported last week.

The investigation of the wreckage, which was covered in barnacles due to how long it was in the ocean, took place at a "specialized lab" in Toulouse, France, according to CNN. The flaperon is still the only piece of flight MH370 that has been discovered since it disappeared in March of 2014 with 239 people on board.
