UPDATE, 12:15 PM: More from Graham on Kane, who was set to have his time with the Cup this weekend...
UPDATE, 11:30 AM: Tim Graham of the Buffalo News is reporting that the investigation allegedly involving Kane is in regards to a rape.
NHL and Chicago Blackhawks star and recent Stanley Cup-winner Patrick Kane is reportedly under investigation in Hamburg, N.Y. The Buffalo News is reporting that Kane is being investigated by Hamburg police in connection with an undisclosed incident. Sources have indicated to the News that police officials have forbidden officers and detectives from discussing the investigation.
"We can neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of a criminal investigation until such a time as a person is charged with a crime," Hamburg Police Chief Gregory G. Wickett said.
No charges have been filed in connection with the incident and it is not known if Kane has been asked to submit to questioning.
Paul J. Cambria Jr., an attorney who has represented Kane in the past, would only say that he had "nothing to say" in regards to the investigation. Kane and his cousin plead guilty to disorderly conduct in 2009 after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver in Buffalo.
Kane, 26, was a major cog in the Blackhawks recent run through the NHL playoffs and aided Chicago to their third Stanley Cup championship in six seasons. He's also appeared in four All Star games and won the Conn Smythe trophy as the playoff MVP after the 2012-13 season.
"It's tough, but it's part of the deal these days," Kane said of being in the public eye in Feb., via Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune. "One thing that has really changed is the social media with Twitter and everything. Once that came out, at the time you don't know how big it is and how much of an affect it can have on you. If you do something wrong it's going to be all over the place. Not only does that go for me, but anyone in here. You just really have to be aware of it."
