The last tournament Rory McIlroy played in was the U.S. Open. His late run in the event earned him a top-10 finish, but a couple weeks later he ruptured a ligament in his ankle and has yet to return to PGA Tour action. However, his progress suggests he could be back for the PGA Championship next week.
McIlroy, after it was rumored the No. 1 golfer in the world booked a practice round at Whistling Straits (the site of the 2015 PGA Championship), posted a number of pictures/videos on his Instagram account documenting his recovery from his ankle injury on Wednesday.
Check them out below:
Here he's conducting a workout on the injured ankle:
McIlroy was unable to defend his title at the British Open in July and will also miss out on doing the same at the Bridgestone Invitational this weekend. Although he has yet to make an announcement, it appears as if he's potentially on track to defend the Wanamaker Trophy at this year's PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin.
His agent would not confirm if McIlroy was playing a practice round at Whistling Straits this weekend, but it's certainly a possibility based on what medical experts said the recovery time would be. It varies depending on the severity, but it was said the 26-year-old could return in as early as 10 days or miss up to three months. He's already working out on his ankle after recovering for a month, and he has another week before the season's final major championship to regain stability and comfort.
