NBA 2K14 Features: The Good and Bad When it Comes to Running Plays; 2K Smart Button and Enhanced Play Calling

A couple of the new features coming to NBA 2K14 are the additions of the enhanced plays and playbooks. Here are the features as posted on the NBA 2K Facebook page:

2K Smart Play Button -Quickly call the most suitable play for the context of the game by simply holding a single button.

Playbook and Play System enhancements - The deepest and most authentic playbook gets even deeper. Execute new half-court sets, experience improved spacing logic, and run updated team specific plays.

These two features help to make the game much realer and add to the thinking aspect of "NBA 2K14."

Having plays in a basketball game prevent some people from just taking one particular player and moving around the Pro Stick until he scores or dribbles himself out of bounds.

It's fun to run Ray Allen off screens or have Blake Griffin get open on his way to the basket for a thunderous two hand jam or an alley-oop.

Depending on how you like to play the game, there is an upside to having an expanded playbook and a "Smart-Play" Button.

However, the problem with running plays is that their pretty hard to complete against people. Usually, if your opponent runs a play it's fairly easy to stand still, look at the screen and see where the ball is going to end up. Even if he/she doesn't pass to the intended target, it's still fairly easy to stop.

The 2K Smart Play Button and the enhanced Playbook and Play System will add something to "NBA 2K14,"-but it has its place and should probably be avoided if you're playing for bragging rights against your friends.
