Dr. Dre To Donate Royalties From New Album To Compton

Rapper Dr. Dre announced Thursday that he is going to donate all his artist royalties from his new album to the city of Compton for a new preforming arts facility, according to the Associated Press.

"I feel it's the right thing to do and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album," The pioneering artist said in an interview with DJ Zane Lowe on Beats 1 Radio, adding that he was working with Compton Mayor Aja Brown and her office on the new preforming arts center, reported Rolling Stone.

"We've reached out to Aja Brown quite a few times in the last month or two," said Dre, whose real name is Andre Young. "I've been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn't quite figure out what it was. She actually had this idea and she was already in the process of working on it. I said, 'Boom, this is what we should do.'"

The album, titled "Compton," is the mogul's first studio album in 16 years, according to Mashable. The album premiered on Apple Music Thursday night and was played for three hours on a loop.

"I feel like it's the right thing to do," the 50-year-old rapper said, "and I just hope everybody appreciated the hard work I put into this album."
