This is quite the story. The sports gossip blog Terez Owens is reporting that linebacker Aldon Smith, released by the San Francisco 49ers early Friday after he was arrested on suspicion of DUI, hit and run and vandalism, actually intentionally ran his car into Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick's car because he was upset that Kaepernick is now dating his ex, Hot 97 radio host, Nessa.
We'll give that a minute to sink in.
OK, so here's how events played out on Friday. Smith's arrest was announced early in the day. It was then revealed via Santa Clara PD that Smith's arrest came as a result of a DUI, hit and run and vandalism. Smith posted bail and proclaimed his innocence. Shortly after the 49ers released him, police reports emerged indicating that Smith was arrested because he struck a parked car, hit a car with his door getting out, left the scene, but eventually came back. Officers apparently believed, based on "objective" evidence, him to be under the influence.
To add to this already ridiculous story - Thursday's arrest marks the third time since 2012 that Smith has been taken into police custody - Owens is now reporting, via an unnamed source who claims to "have a buddy" that works at Relativity Sports in San Francisco - the agency which represents Smith - who says that Smith drove his car into Kaepernick's because of anger and frustration over his ex, Nessa. Owens' source makes it clear that their "buddy" is just an intern, so take this with a grain of salt if you weren't already. TMZ is reporting that Smith and Kaepernick actually had an on-field fight at some point earlier this week, potentially stemming from Smith's anger over Kaepernick's supposed relationship with Nessa.
Jason Cole of Bleacher Report says that he talked to someone close to Smith who denied that the car he struck belonged to Kaepernick.
