The widow of a Cincinnati cop fatally shot in the line of duty is pleading with local leaders to withhold the dash-cam video of her husband being killed.
Jessica Kim, wife of the late Sonny Kim, wrote a letter addressed to Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley, City Manager Harry Black and Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell asking to spare her children the sight of their murdered father, according to Cincinnati.com.
"For my kids, witnessing their father lying helplessly on the ground will only add to the devastation that they have already felt," wrote Kim. "Sonny was their rock, strong and protective. They should not have to see a broken image of their father like that."
Officer Kim was shot while responding to a 911 call involving an armed man exhibiting belligerent behavior while walking on the sidewalk.
It was later revealed that the man, 21 year old Trepierre Hummons, was suicidal and intended to commit "suicide by cop," which means provoking an officer, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
The father and grandmother of Hummons also joined Kim's plea, asking that the tape of their family member not be shown, as it would upset his siblings.
Ohio law allows recordings like this to be shown to the public, and the local media want the footage to determine just what happened.
Officer Kim was 48 years old.
