The FBI has been asked to assist in the investigation of the shooting of Christian Taylor, 19, who was unarmed when he was shot down by officer Brad Miller, 49, reported FOX News.
The shooting took place during a late-night burglary call at a car dealership where Taylor allegedly drove his Jeep through the front window and kicked out the windshield of one of the cars, according to CNN.
Taylor was asked to surrender and lie down during the call. When he refused and ran, officers followed him and the incident ended with Miller shooting at Taylor four times and hitting him at least twice, ABC News reported.
Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson said during a news conference Saturday night that the department is in talks with the FBI regarding the shooting, adding that the decision "in no way diminishes my confidence" in his department's ability to conduct an investigation into the incident.
Miller, who was still in the process of completing his department field training before the incident, has been placed on administrative leave. Department officials said that he had never fired his weapon in the line of duty before.
Taylor's death took place two days before the one-year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown, another unarmed black teenager who was fatally shot by a white police officer.
Taylor's father stated that he had no idea why his son would be at a car dealership so late at of night, according to CBS News.
"What he was doing ain't no way right," he said. "But to shoot an unarmed man? And you're trained to take down men with your hands, with Taser, with your club and you shoot to kill?"
