Following the 1-1 draw in their last T20 series, England and Australia begin their 5-match ODI series on Friday, Cricket365.com reports. England enters the ODI series without key players Alastair Cook, James Anderson, Ian Bell, Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad. The English squad will look to rally behind skipper Eoin Morgan, Joe Root and Kevin Pietersen.
Pietersen's experience will be especially crucial to England's efforts — he has 4,369 runs in international ODIs for an average of 41.60 per match, according to BBC.
"Kev offers a hell of a lot as a senior player and as a batsman," Morgan told BBC. "He leads by example, the confidence in which he goes about his business. People rub off on it and it's crucial."
Despite an arguably depleted squad, Morgan is confident the ODI series will be competitive.
"We've got a young, talented, exciting team playing in this series and it can be a stepping stone looking ahead to the 2015 World Cup," Morgan said. "This series in particular is going to be a hard-fought series for both sides and really exciting at the same time."
Michael Clarke captains Australia once more, and the squad will look for big performances from Shane Watson, Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch, who last month batted 14 sixes and 11 fours in 156 for a record international T20 score.
