Actor Bill Murray will make an appearance in "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig's upcoming installment of the "Ghostbusters" franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Murray played the iconic role of Dr. Peter Venkman in the original "Ghostbusters" movie in 1984, as well as the 1989 sequel "Ghostbusters II" alongside Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver.
The news comes as a bit of a surprise considering Murray had publicly expressed his discomfort and hesitancy about being a part of the next female-led "Ghostbusters" movie. Earlier this year, he told David Letterman that his doubtfulness stems from "Ghostbusters II" not having been received as well as the original, according to CNN.
Murray will join former "Ghostbusters" co-star Dan Aykroyd, who confirmed last month that he will be making a cameo appearance in the new movie, as HNGN previously reported.
The remake, which is currently in production, stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth and is slated to hit theaters on July 15, 2016.
