A United Express plane that was headed for Chicago had to be diverted to Indianapolis because of a 10,000-foot vertical drop caused by a pressurization problem.
United Express Flight 5919 was headed to Illinois from Charlotte, N.C., when the plane unexpectedly took a nosedive and had to be diverted to Indianapolis International Airport on Sunday morning shortly after 8 a.m., according to NBC News.
The plane, which is operated by the regional partner of the airline ExpressJet, was carrying 50 passengers, two pilots and one flight attendant when it made its landing in the Indiana city.
"We are working to accommodate our customers after the flight safely landed in Indianapolis due to a mechanical issue. The crew followed procedure to safely bring the aircraft to a lower altitude and land in Indianapolis," said a spokesperson for ExpressJet, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
The passengers inside the plane began to complain about headaches and ear problems when the plane dropped.
Once the plane landed safely in Indianapolis, a few passengers asked to be checked by medical personnel, but none of people on board, including the pilots and the flight attendant, were taken to the hospital, according to NBC Chicago.
