100-Vehicle Crash (VIDEO/PICTURES): More Than 200 Injured on Foggy Bridge Near London After Massive Car Pile-up

Firefighters and emergency workers were called to the scene of a massive car pile-up on a bridge near London. According to The Guardian, more than 100 vehicles were involved in a pile-up crash that injured almost 200 people. The Thursday morning crash began around 7:15 a.m. and lasted about then minutes, Fox News reports.

A Kent police spokeswoman told the British newspaper that despite the horrific scene and chaos there has not been any deaths. One side of the A249 Bridge remained completely closed as emergency workers tried to remove the vehicles.

"There are no fatalities but ambulance crews are dealing with a large number of walking wounded casualties," the spokeswoman told The Guardian. "Firefighters have used hydraulic cutting equipment to release five people from their vehicles."

The injured people were taken to Medway Maritime and Queen Elizabeth hospitals.

Martin Stammers admitted to the British newspaper that despite the dense fog and limited visibility people were still "driving like idiots." He and his son managed to escape getting involved with the crash but witnessed the entire thing. Even after police arrived to the scene Stammers said you could still hear cars slamming into the back of each other.

"All you could hear was cars crashing. We got out of our car and it was eerily quiet with visibility down to just 20 yards," Stammers said. "It was all you could hear for about 10 minutes - crash after crash after crash... Then you would hear the screeching of brakes and then a thud."

"The whole top of the bridge is full of mangled cars and lorries. There are cars with their roofs ripped off," he continued. "There were a lot of people trapped."
