Airplane debris that washed ashore in the Maldives Friday are not a part of missing Flight MH370. The pieces are actually from a barge that sank in the area, reports The Daily Mail.
Or is it?
Perhaps not all the debris comes from the barge. One piece, which looks like a plane wing, is still being investigated. A few pieces that could be linked to the missing plane, a Boeing 777, are going to Malaysia for analysis, The Daily Mail reports.
There have been several sightings of debris around the Maldives. On July 29, a wing flap belonging to Flight MH370 was found on Reunion Island. Flight MH370 disappeared around the Indian Ocean on March 2014. All 239 people aboard are believed to be deceased. Despite a massive search effort, the wing flap is the only piece of the Boeing 777 to be recovered.
"I urge all parties to allow for the verification process to take its course. Undue speculation will only stress the families and loved ones, anxiously awaiting news on this matter," Malaysia's transport ministry said in a statement, according to IBTimes.
Residents of the Maldives reported to seeing a low-flying plane on March 8, 2014, around the time Flight MH370 vanished, according to EuroNews.
