White House staffer Barvetta Singletary, special assistant to President Barack Obama, has been arrested for firing at her police officer boyfriend, using the officer's own gun.
Singletary, a special assistant to the president and house legislative affairs liaison, was arrested on Friday for allegedly threatening and shooting at a Capitol Hill police officer with whom she had a romantic relationship, shows police records, according the CNN. Singletary has since been placed on unpaid administrative leave and her White House access has been revoked.
The chain of events started Friday, after an intimate encounter between the couple. Accusing the officer of dating other women, she allegedly took his cell phones and service revolver, demanding password codes and access to telephone messaging. At this point, the 37-year-old Singletary, using the officer's weapon, fired one round in his direction, according to ABC News. The officer escaped and called the police, who later arrested Singletary without incident.
Singletary is the daughter of Councilwoman W. Jeanie Brown-Burrows and the late Bobby Singletary. She came into her position at The White House, in 2014, as special assistant to the president. Her prior position was as deputy chief-of-staff and policy director to Rep. James Clyburn, (D-S.C.), the third-ranking democrat in the house and assistant minority leader, according to FOX News.
Barvetta Singletary has been charged with domestic violence and reckless endangerment. After paying the $75,000 bail, Singletary was released from Maryland's Prince George's County jail.
U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Kimberley Schneider said the department is investigating the matter.
