Winona Ryder confirmed there is a "Beetlejuice" sequel in the works during an interview with "Late Night" host Seth Meyers, reported USA Today. The iconic '90s actress also confirmed she's onboard for the project, where she may or may not reprise her role as Lydia Deetz.
"I think I can confirm it because Tim Burton did this interview, like, it was very hush-hush top secret, 'I don't know what may happen, I don't know,'" the 43-year-old actress dished on the show. "And then he was doing some press for 'Big Eyes' and he did an on camera interview and he said, 'Oh, yeah, we're doing it, and Winona's gonna be in it.' ... But I really don't know much more than anybody else."
"Beetlejuice," Burton's 1988 cult classic, follows a recently deceased couple who enlist the help of a "bio-exorcist" named Beetlejuice to help them learn techniques to scare away a family who move into their old home. Ryder's character is the new family's moody teenage daughter.
Meyers asked Ryder if she's experienced younger kids recognizing her from her role in the film and if she thought the film transcended the generation gap.
"Yes, little kids and, I think, I love that, and I'm so touched by that because how do they know?" she gushed." There's so much CGI and Middle Earth and, like, that they love 'Beetlejuice' must mean there's something sort of pure about it, you know, in a weird way."
