Apple is reportedly planning to launch the latest version of its desktop and laptop operating system, Mac OS X Mavericks, end of October.
Apple may have been making the headlines for its cheaper iPhone models, expected to arrive in a couple of weeks, but that has not stopped it working on its much-anticipated OS X update of the year. The tech giant is reportedly planning to launch the next Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks sometime after declaring its Q4 earnings in the second half of October.
Apple has always followed the trend of releasing new operating systems after sharing its earnings results, so with the latest earnings report set to be out in late October, the company may release Mavericks the following day, according to a report by 9to5 Mac citing anonymous sources.
Apple releases a new desktop operating system once every year, with several changes to apps and designs. This year's update to the OS will bring new features like a better Finder, faster Safari browser, Apple Maps, Newsstand and iBooks apps as well as a new Calendar application. It will also include multiple-monitor support and an advanced Notification Centre.
According to the report, Apple is planning on a later release for Mavericks, which was earlier expected to arrive at the iPhone launch event Tuesday September 10, so the company could mainly focus on rolling out its newest mobile operating system. Apple's iOS 7 is expected to arrive alongside new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C in the coming weeks.
While the Cuppertino-based company has not confirmed the pricing or the availability of its Mavericks, named after a popular surfing destination in northern California, latest reports suggest it may be available to all consumers before the end of next month or the beginning of November for around $30.
Apple is also planning to release a new range of Mac Pro, iMan and MacBook Pro laptops in October, suggesting the new OS X Mavericks will debut along with these devices like its iOS 7 coupled with new iPhones.
