After giving birth to her prematurely born daughter in July, Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler is heading back to Capitol Hill to vote on vital issues like the Syrian crisis, UPI reported.
Herrera Beutler's daughter, Abigail, was born with Potter's Syndrome -- a condition which prevents kidneys and lungs from functioning properly -- three months before her due date.
Although treatments were successful on her daughter, Herrera Beutler remained at her California hospital bedside and put her congressional duties aside. Until her daughter is able to go home, she will remain at her side and travel to Washington for key votes, like the one determining the role of the U.S. amid the Syrian crisis.
"Of course we hope to come home with Abigail as soon as possible but the truth is we don't know precisely when that will be," Herrera Beutler said in a Facebook post.
She also thanked her constituents for their support during her daughter's health difficulties -- an issue doctors originally said was fatal.
"I want to thank you and all of the people of Southwest Washington for your prayers, support and understanding during this uncertain time for my family. Since our first family announcement the reaction we've received has been touching and humbling. Dan and I may never be able fully to express how much it has meant to receive so many wonderful messages from people in every community in our district, all backgrounds and political persuasions," she added.
Also posted to her Facebook page was a link to her appearance on The Today Show.
"My husband Dan & I went on The Today Show to talk about the miracle birth of our daughter Abigail. We hope our story can open doors for other parents facing difficult diagnoses," she said.
