Wisconsin Basketball RUMORS: Bo Ryan Not Retiring After Next Season?

Bo Ryan led the Wisconsin Badgers all the way to the National Championship game last season before they fell to Duke in the title game. After the season ended Bo Ryan announced that he was only going to coach one more season and then retire but now he seems to have changed his mind as he doesn't know when he is going to call it quits, according to ESPN.

Ryan is now 67 years old and is widely considered one of the best coaches in college basketball. Since Ryan got to Wisconsin in 2000 he has turned them into a perennial power not only in the Big Ten but also nationally. Ryan has gone 357-125 at Wisconsin and has 387 division one wins total. Before getting into division one coaching Ryan won four division three National Championships at Wisconsin-Plattville. There are many within the college ranks that believe Ryan is an eventual Hall of Famer between his work in division three and at Wisconsin.

Ryan said that he made the retirement statement to let recruits know that he can't guarantee them four years if they commit to playing their college basketball with the Badgers. Ryan said it is still possible that he will retire after this season but it was more of just a blanket statement that he is nearing the end and has thought about retirement.

"I just wanted to get it out there that I'm not going to be able to do this forever. But who can say one year? Who can say that? I simply cut to the chase by saying I'll do another year and we'll see what happens in the next number of months," said Ryan.

Ryan did some of his best work last season when he took a team with no McDonald's All-Americans to the championship game after beating Kentucky, a team loaded with McDonald's All-Americans. After losing Sam Dekker and Frank Kaminsky to the NBA Wisconsin will come into the 2015-16 season with tempered expectations but they should still be a very good team.

Bo Ryan has a way of getting the most out of the talent he has and he has two of the most talented players in the Big Ten in Bronson Koenig and Nigel Hayes. Next year's Wisconsin team may not be as good as last seasons but they will still likely be very good which will likely be the case as long as Bo Ryan is around and that may be longer than Badger fans thought a couple of months ago.
