The LSU Tigers haven't yet made a final determination who their starting quarterback will be when they take the field for the start of the 2015 season against McNeese State, but from the sounds of the latest report, one of the potential choices has begun separating himself from the rest. From NOLA.com's James Smith:
"Multiple sources within LSU's program said sophomore Brandon Harris has progressed on the field and is lightyears ahead of where he was last season. The Tigers' practices are closed to the media, but the sources inside the program said Harris has exhibited a grasp of the offense throughout fall camp."
Per Smith, "all indications" are that Harris will be the starter over junior Anthony Jennings going into the season. Not only have coaches begun preparing the offense like Harris will be the starter, it seems Players have begun to rally behind the sophomore signal-caller and most believe he is the "future at quarterback" at LSU, according to Smith.
This is somewhat surprising news considering Harris had something of an up-and-down first season, starting at Auburn one week only to be benched and relegated to backup role the next.
Of course, while Harris was in and out of the lineup last year, sources indicated to Smith that Tigers fans shouldn't expect a rotation between Harris and Jennings. Jennings probably has his arrest earlier this summer at least partially to thank for his demotion and Harris' ascension to the starting spot.
Last year, the 6-foot-3, 188-pound Harris managed 25 completions for 452 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions.
Jennings, appearing in 13 games, completed 111 passes for 1,611 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
