Margaret Cho has filed for divorce from her husband Al Ridenour. The divorce was officially filed in California on Wednesday, according to People. The 46-year-old "Drop Dead Diva" comedienne and Ridenour had been married – and in an open relationship – for 11 years when they announced that they would be separating in December, even though they have not been together since September.
"It's been really, really hard for her," a source told Us Weekly. "She's going through a really rough time and she's really sad about it."
Cho's reason for divorcing the 54-year-old artist is cited as "irreconcilable differences."
She first revealed the two had an open relatiosnhip while appearing on "The Real" back in 2013.
"I'm married to a man but I'm bisexual, so I like both [sexes]," she said at the time. "We got together because we both have this [idea of] 'I just don't want to have sex with the same person my whole life. That's just gross." As soon as they met, they decided on a non-monogamous marriage and up until now, it had always "worked out" for them.
Cho revealed that she had even been in the house with Ridenour when he had another woman with him, and she never got jealous. "It's kind of like if we wanna have that, it's like, 'You can stay on your side or I'll stay on my side.' When I see her, I'll make her dinner."
The two had no children together. Ridenour has not yet commented on the divorce.
