Wentworth Miller went public with his sexuality in a letter to Russia, declining a visit to the country until they get their civil rights' laws in order, but he hasn't always been proud to be a gay man.
TMZ published videos of Miller speaking about his struggles with accepting sexuality and not having the help needed to overcome his inner demons. Sadly, Miller admitted he had attempted suicide.
The "Prison Break" actor said he downed a bottle of pills but it was not a cry for help because "you only cry for help if there is help to cry for."
"I waited until my family went away for the weekend and I was alone in the house and I swallowed a bottle of pills," Miller said.
"I don't remember what happened over the next couple of days but I'm pretty sure come Monday morning I was on the bus back to school pretending everything was fine," Miller said in the video. "...Growing up I was a target. Speaking the right way, standing the right way, holding your wrist the right way. Every day was a test and there was a thousand ways to fail."
He went on to explain his life as a "closeted" Hollywood actor, saying he wants to be the role model he never had, "to be the someone else, that no one was to me."
Miller's "coming out" letter was published on GLAAD's official website, as a protest to Russia's current civil rights laws:
"I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly. Perhaps, when and if circumstances improve, I'll be free to make a different choice."
