A Missouri family is being threatened with jail time by their local homeowners association for the purple swing set they built for their two small girls.
The Stouts have been at odds with the Raintree Lake Homeowners Association in Lee's Summit, Mo., and have been fined in the past, but won the dispute. Now the HOA is taking things a step futher and threatening the family with jail time if they don't remove the swing set, which they believe to clash with the color scheme of the neighborhood, according to Fox News.
Mother Marla Stout was notified that, if she does not remove the set they built two years ago, she or her husband could possibly be fined or sent to jail.
Stout claimed that, though the HOA is saying she and her family are breaking the rules, the actual rules mention nothing about color.
"What it says is it has to be harmonious with the community and with nature, and there is nothing that dictates the color of the swing set," said Stout, according to the BizPac Review.
She went on to say that the purple actually compliments the color of fall leaves, and the color was a compromise after changing the color once before to appease the HOA.
Stout said she talked to each neighbor in view of the swing set and asked them to sign a petition saying the set is not bothering them, but the HOA said that isn't good enough, according to KMBC-TV.
The HOA will be going to court on the matter Aug. 21.
