Teary Michigan Rep. Cindy Gamrat apologized Friday for her affair with fellow legislator Todd Courser, marking the first time she has addressed the affair with her fellow state rep.
Audio recordings obtained by The Detroit News claimed that Courser tried to cover up the affair with the distribution of a false email that stated he had sex with a male prostitute. Both Gamrat and Courser are married. Courser has also apologized through an audio post on his campaign website, according to ABC News.
Gamrat, with her husband by her side apologized during a news conference in Lansing on Friday for her behavior and the negative attention it has brought while accepting full responsibility for her actions. She also claimed an open investigation will vindicate her. Gamrat denied participating in a bizarre scheme by Courser to deflect attention from their affair, according to Click On Detroit.
Gamrat and Courser took office in January and share both an office and staff in an effort to lower cost on the taxpayers they serve.
