Chick-Fil-A Workers Get Five Months Pay During Chain's Renovations

Chick-Fil-A Owner Jeff Glover recently had to close down his restaurant in Austin, Texas for five months for renovations. That's usually a bad turn of events for restaurant employees who go without pay during such periods. But instead of temporarily laying off his 50 workers, Glover shocked them, and many others, by continuing to pay them throughout the five month period the restaurant was closed, reported ABC's Austin Affiliate KVUE.

"I thought to myself, 'I don't want my group to have to forgo their salaries,'" he said. As a bonus for sticking with hm for the 15 years he owned the restaurant, Glover also gave all of his employees a $1 raise.

While the restaurant was closed, workers were required to do online testing, reported The Daily Meal. Now that newly renovated 5,700 square foot restaurant is back open for business, Glover is looking to add more people to his staff.

Norma Baynes, one of the managers at the restaurant, was surprised by the gesture noting that this type of generosity usually doesn't happen in today's business climate.

"I've been here for over a decade and I can't put into words how much this means," she said.

On the other hand, at least one employee wasn't surprised by the gesture, according to Business Insider.

"I wasn't expecting less than that - he is always taking care of us," the unnamed worker told KVUE.
