Kathie Lee Gifford, co-host of NBC's "Today," made her return to the show one week after the death of her husband and NFL great, Frank Gifford. She took the time to pay tribute to her husband and choked up on-air as she spoke about his legacy and his passing, People reported.
"He'd want you to know that he died in complete peace," Kathie Lee said of her late husband, her voice wavering during her tribute. "He knew every sin he'd ever committed was forgiven, he had the hope that he would be with the lord and that we would someday be with him as well."
She told stories about Frank, about how growing up in poverty during the Great Depression turned him into a grateful person and how his Christian faith played a big role in his life.
"Honestly, he's the most grateful human being I've ever, ever known," Kathie Lee continued, "and that colored everything he did. He would want you all to know that when he was a little boy, they had nothing but they had their faith."
Kathie Lee went on and shared some of Frank's last moments on the morning that he passed, on Sunday, August 9 at the Gifford family's Connecticut home, as previously reported by HNGN. He was 84 years old.
"He passed away instantly that morning all dressed in what he knew was my favorite outfit, white shirt very tight black jeans, having his coffee, watching his TV, getting ready for church and excited about what we were gonna have for lunch," she said, smiling. She finished up her tribute by giving thanks to the Lord and started to break down, and co-host and close friend Hoda Kotb held her hand and the women wiped away tears.
