New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia is seen in video footage obtained by TMZ being dragged away from a developing street fight by members of his entourage. Check out the video...
Per TMZ, Sabathia and his crew were leaving a Toronto night club when a "massive" fight broke out. Several people were forced to hold the big Yanks lefty back from the melee. The club - EFS Nightclub - was obviously rife with Toronto Blue Jays fans, who CC's New York teammates had just soundly defeated. Witnesses told TMZ that hecklers were yelling "Go Blue Jays" at the 6-foot-7 Sabathia.
The Yankees scratched Sabathia from his start on Monday night, via Erik Borland of Newsday, but manager Brian Cashman assured Borland that Sabathia is OK. Bryan Mitchell, who hasn't pitched since Aug. 11, will take the mound in Sabathia's place. He has a 3.72 ERA on the year with 20 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings.
Sabathia, despite the scratch, is not injured. The move will push back the rotation and give everyone extra rest during a stretch wherein the Yankees play 16 games in 16 days.
When told of the incident involving Sabathia, Cashman said he was unaware of it and had no comment on the matter, per the NY Post.
